Countess of Chester Country Park – Wellbeing Walks

A new social walking group is being set up at the Countess of Chester Country Park to bring people together to enjoy the park and nature whilst also improving their physical and mental wellbeing.

The group is open to everyone and will be led by trained walk leaders who will take the group on a steady walk around the park’s pathways and adjoining canal tow path.

The wellbeing walk will take approximately 30 to 45 minutes with breaks to enjoy the surroundings.

Councillor Louise Gittins, Leader of Cheshire West and Chester Council said: “This is the second group to be set up under a new walking initiative coordinated by the Council’s Total Environment team in partnership with The Rambler’s Association.

“The group is organised jointly by volunteers from the Friends of Countess of Chester Country Park and staff from our Total Environment Team.”

The group will meet at the Friendly Chair, Countess of Chester Country Park every Friday at 1pm starting from 30 July.

The Countess of Chester Country Park is owned by The Land Trust and managed on their behalf by The Conservation Volunteers.

About the Countess of Chester Country Park

Much of the park is located on a former landfill site next to the Countess of Chester Hospital, which was closed in the 1970s. Thirty years later, the Homes and Communities Agency took ownership, allocated some land for housing and gave 19 hectares to the Land Trust to develop a country park.

It was officially opened on 12th September 2014 by HRH the Duchess of Cornwall and now provides paths and trails for walking, running and cycling, plus a range of habitats for wildlife. The Conservation Volunteers is the managing partner with responsibility for day-to-car care, and further support and funding is provided by a range of other organisations.

About The Land Trust

We have around 2,000 hectares of land in our portfolio and use our spaces to deliver positive interventions that provide significant community benefits, including improving health, social cohesion, providing an educational resource and uplifting the local economy, whilst improving and enhancing the natural environment.
