Cheshire West and Chester Council is proud to support the England football team and wishes the team the very best of luck in the upcoming World Cup
That’s why, from 11th June we will be flying the England flag from civic buildings and council offices and lighting up our buildings whilst the England team remain in the competition.
We know that many residents and businesses will also want to show their support for the team, and for some, that may mean flying the England flag - flags are an important symbol of national identity, unity, and respect - which they are able to do from their own home, or property.
Let’s all get behind the England team and show them our support. But please remember, you can’t fix a flag to streetlights, road signs, or other highway infrastructure - it’s unlawful and unacceptable and creates avoidable risks to public safety, including hazards for drivers and pedestrians.
Any flags that are installed on council property or street furniture (such as lamp posts and road signs) will be removed, and any damage to council-owned infrastructure will be treated as criminal damage and reported to the police.
There are lots of other fun and creative ways we can all show our support. Why not have a World Cup party at home? Set the scene with decorations, create the ultimate match-day snack table, wear your England colours, paint the kids’ faces and play some football-themed games before kick-off.
England’s first World Cup game will be on Wednesday 17th June at 9pm.
