Crowds are expected to line the streets of Chester city centre once again as the Chester City Passion returns on Good Friday, 26th March 2027.
The large-scale outdoor production, which previously attracted more than 3,000 spectators, will transform the city into an open-air stage, retelling the Easter story across iconic locations including the Rows, Chester Cross, and Chester Cathedral.
Featuring a cast of local actors, musicians, and community performers, the event brings together theatre, music, and storytelling in a free, family-friendly experience.
Andy Glover, Chair of the Chester City Passion Steering Group, said:
“It’s an extraordinary moment when the city itself becomes the stage and thousands gather to watch the story unfold. There’s a real sense of community and shared experience at the heart of it.”
Artistic Director Matt Baker added:
“Chester offers such a unique setting for this production. We’re excited to bring the streets to life again and create something memorable for audiences in 2027.”
The Chester City Passion was first staged in 2016 and will return as part of the lead-up to the Chester Mystery Plays at the Cathedral in 2028.
The event is free to attend and open to all.
