TRIO OF CLASSICAL FAVOURITES IN ORCHESTRA'S SEASON FINALE AT CHESTER CATHEDRAL.

Final rehearsals are underway as Chester Philharmonic Orchestra prepares to stage the final concert in its current season.

Entitled 'The Power of Three' and set to be staged at Chester Cathedral on Saturday 27^th June at 7.30pm, the concert will feature music by popular classical composers including Brahms and Sibelius. Chester Philharmonic Orchestra will be joined on stage by special guests solo violinist Xander Croft and conductor Robin Wallington. 

Showcasing Brahms 3^rd Symphony, the concert will open with the Drysdale Overture, written in 1937 by New Zealand composer Douglas Lilburn. The concert will also feature the Sibelius Violin Concerto, performed by rising young star of the classical world, Xander Croft.

A graduate of the Royal Northern College of Music, Xander performs on a Tommaso Carcassi violin from 1750, on a generous loan from The Harrison-Frank Family Foundation. Xander has performed as a soloist and chamber musician throughout the UK and in Europe, with highlights including a tour of Scotland, performance at Wigmore Hall, concerts in Italy, Switzerland, France, Germany, Denmark and the Netherlands, and performances of Bruch and Mendelssohn violin concertos. In June 2024 he was awarded third prize with the Elmore Quartet at the prestigious Premio Paolo Borciani International String Quartet Competition in Reggio Emilia, Italy.

Joining the orchestra as guest conductor, Robin Wallington has built a reputation for versatility and dynamism across a wide range of contemporary and more established repertoire. He has worked extensively in opera, including tours with OperaUpClose as Music Director/Music Supervisor and as Assistant Conductor for English Touring Opera. With a particular passion for British 20th century music, Robin has recorded lesser known works by Bax, Moeran and Carwithen for BBC Radio 3 and others. Robin is also a professional composer, arranger, and editor, having arranged for both classical and cross-over projects with a variety of ensembles such as the BBC Philharmonic and OperaUpClose.  He has also conducted his own arrangements live on television for events including BBC's Children in Need.
