Sam Rowlands, Member of the Welsh Parliament for Fflint Wrecsam, is warning his constituents about a national scam.
Mr Rowlands is backing a warning from North Wales Police who say that courier fraud is on the increase in North Wales.
He said:
“I was quite shocked to hear that £118,940 is the amount of money criminals have stolen through courier fraud in North Wales alone with over £21 million in total from victims across England and Wales in 2025.
“It clearly still remains a problem and I am happy to promote any warning of fraud taking place. Unfortunately these fraudsters pray on the good nature of most people and can sound extremely plausible when talking on the telephone.
“There really are some despicable people out there who will do anything to scam the public and police advice is to always check and if something doesn’t sound right then end the call.”
North Wales Police Cyber Crime Team say they have recently seen an increase in reports of courier fraud across North Wales and warning people about calls they may receive from their bank arranging to call and collect their bank card which is called courier fraud. Their advice is to hang up immediately and contact the police.
Banks or the Police will never call and ask you to transfer money, or send a courier to your home to collect cards, cash or other valuables.
If you've received a call that doesn't feel right, STOP! hang up and contact the organisation directly using the contact details on official correspondence or website, or by calling 159 for your bank.
