Local young people in Chester and Ellesmere Port offered lifeline in the pandemic, and a chance to learn from Paralympians and leading mentors – all from their own home.
Youth charity WeMindTheGap is offering 16-18 year olds in Chester and Ellesmere Port an exclusive opportunity to join a free virtual programme called WeDiscover - running throughout February and March.
WeDiscover has been created in response to the pandemic - helping young people aged 16 – 18 who might be feeling isolated, lonely or bored due to the pandemic.
All young people enrolled on WeDiscover will take part in fun workshops to develop their skills, and help them plan a brilliant future and career for themselves - all from the safety of their own homes. In addition, they will each have their own mentor, and will talk to and learn from inspirational people including Paralympians, BBC camera operators, Cybersecurity experts, and NHS intensive care professionals.
Laura Columbine at WeMindTheGap says: “We created WeDiscover as we know there’s a lot of young people feeling isolated due to the pandemic and unsure of what to do next. We’ve already completed one programme and it was a huge success - the young people gained loads of confidence, made friends, learnt new skills, and even said they’d found the course to be a ‘proper banger’. We’re so pleased to have this funding to be able to help even more young people who may be feeling locked down, hopeless and bored in the current situation.”
WeDiscover runs from now until Easter for a minimum of six weeks, with young people able to join at different start dates across February and March. The course is completely free and virtual. Laptops and data are also provided where necessary to ensure access for all.
Interested 16-18 year olds can watch a video about the programme at https://youtu.be/6K7-udxeQfI
