Continued parking chaos at Wrexham Maelor Hospital

Sam Rowlands, Member of the Welsh Parliament for Fflint Wrecsam, is once again urging the public to sign a petition calling for action to resolve parking issues at Wrexham Maelor Hospital.

Mr Rowlands supported a campaign earlier this year, by the local newspaper, The Leader, who are calling for improvements to be made to ease the situation at the hospital. This followed the launch of his own petition last November and he is now calling on his constituents to sign an ongoing petition launched by a member of the public after it was raised again by the newspaper.

Local resident, Viv Parry started a petition after her personal experience of trying to park at the hospital and backed by Mr Rowlands she is asking people to sign to assist in major changes to the parking issues at Wrexham Maelor Hospital.

Mr Rowlands said:

“I thank the Leader for raising this issue once again and I want the public to be aware that Viv’s petition is online until November 2. There are already enough signatures for the matter to be discussed by the petitions committee but we need a lot more to ensure a debate in the Senedd.

“I still continue to receive emails and letters from my constituents telling me about their experiences of trying to park at the hospital.

“People arriving for appointments are stressed, anxious and often late because they cannot find a safe or available place to park. Staff working those long and difficult shifts face the same challenges.

“It is extremely frustrating and so wrong that some people find themselves having to use alternative car parks, sometimes up to 15-20 minutes walk away from the hospital, because they cannot find a parking space when attending an appointment.

“I have actually spent some time in the car park and seen at firsthand how dangerous and frustrating it is to park there. It really isn’t good enough and this issue needs to be dealt with as a matter of urgency.

“Quite clearly the parking capacity is not enough and we need urgent action. Whether it be looking at a park and ride facility,  a multi-storey car park or better use of existing land or other options that may be available to the Government.

“Viv Parry’s petition is on the Welsh Parliament’s website and I am now urging my constituents to sign the petition and make sure the Welsh Government gets involved and helps to solve the increasing parking problems.”
