County Hall Campus in Mold - Demolition Preparations

It has now been six years since the partial demolition of County Hall in Mold and during that time the Council has been clear in its intention to progress to full demolition of the building with the land being put to better use.

With ambitious plans for future use of the site, residents and visitors are already enjoying the benefits of a world-class theatre and cultural centre, attracting some of the world’s greatest performers, writers, directors and designers along with inclusive community learning and engagement opportunities.  Plans are also well underway for the development of a new joint Flintshire and Denbighshire archive services building on land next door to the new and improved Theatr Clwyd.

The demolition of County Hall and the Old Library Building (located at the rear of the Law Courts) will be the final phase in the Master Plan for the site which will see land released for redevelopment, although as yet it is too early to say exactly what that redevelopment will look like.

A Prior Notification of Demolition has been submitted to the Council’s Planning Service for consideration and notices have been posted on site.

Subject to necessary approvals it is intended that demolition work will start early in 2027 and be complete before the end of the year.

Cabinet Member for Highways, Assets and Public Protection, Councillor Ted Palmer said:

“The demolition of County Hall and associated buildings will bring significant benefits both for the Council and Flintshire residents.

“The Council has been ambitious in its plans for this site, and this final piece of the jigsaw will see an old building, long passed its useful life, make way for more useful future development opportunities.”
