A local community theatre company is bringing one its most popular shows back "by popular demand" with a brand new production set to take to the stage at the Garrett Theatre, at Storyhouse in Chester.
Final rehearsals are underway as Tip Top Productions prepare to stage perennial favourite "Bouncers" (Remix) by John Godber at the city centre venue from Wednesday 7th August - Saturday 10th August at 7.30pm with a matinee performance taking place at 2.30pm on Saturday 10th August.
Originally written by John Godber in 1983, this 90s remix of "Bouncers" which contains strong language and adult themes, tells the story of a night out in a typical Northern town, with four cast members playing all the characters. They rapidly switch characters and genders, portraying everyone from the bouncers themselves to boozed-up lads and ladies seeking fun on the dancefloor.
Speaking about this new production of "Bouncers", the show's Director and founder of Tip Top Productions, Peter Swingler OBE said:
"Tip Top have staged "Bouncers" numerous times since our first production way back in 2001. After the 2017 production, we said "never again," but due to popular demand, it’s back and just as laugh out loud funny as ever!"
Peter added:
"It is often said that if a non-theatregoer wants to see a play, this is the one to start with. Each cast member has a special connection with John Godber’s unique creation, bringing their own touch to this beloved play. Collectively, the cast, Andy Jordan, Mike Kelsall, Neil Mason, and Rob Tempest have appeared in or directed this play over 20 times."
Andy who plays Judd for the ninth time explains:
“Judd has a special place in my heart, and the lines are firmly burnt into the memory bank now. No chance they can be replaced! Is it time to hang up the tux and bow tie and never do Bouncers again? With a play this good, that audiences love so much, and that is such great fun to be in… the aim has to be for double figures now!
Mike who plays Lucky Eric said:
“Having directed and played Eric with Tip Top and other Cheshire theatre groups, it remains my favourite play to watch, direct or perform in. it’s a perfect mixture of pathos and base humour that captures the culture of ‘a night on the town’ in the 80s & 30’s.. or my own youth!”
Neil made his debut with Tip Top Productions in the off-stage chorus of La Cage Aux Folles back in the 90s. Since his early anonymity, he has performed in many musicals and plays. He has twice appeared in The Full Monty, twice in Flint Street Nativity and is about to score himself a hat-trick of Bouncers! Having previously worked the door as Lucky Eric, Neil is looking forward to playing Ralph for the first time.
Rob is thrilled to return to the stage in this production of Bouncers, stepping in to the role of Les. Rob is no stranger to Bouncers, having previously portrayed Ralph in Tip Top’s 2017 edition.
