Blues Match Report: Chester 4 - 1 Worksop Town

Chester FC made it back-to-back wins with a first-class display against Worksop Town at the Deva Community Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The first chance of the contest led to the opening goal as Ruben Butt grabbed his third goal in as many appearances for the club.

Jefferson Abreu, who enjoyed a fantastic afternoon, drove forward and slid an inviting ball to Butt who finished with composure past Max Dearnley in the away goal.

Worksop’s sole opportunity of the opening period arrived just before the half-hour mark but Luke Hewitson was equal to an effort from distance from Lewis Whitham.

Abreu continued to prove a major threat before the interval, but his effort with five minutes remaining in the half flew wide from inside the area after a sustained period of home pressure.

Phil Parkinson’s men began the second-half in scintillating and doubled the lead within the 46th minute, as Billy Waters tapped home at the back-post after an inviting cross from Butt.

The Tigers pulled one back shortly after through a fantastic long-range strike from Lewis Whitham, a reprieve that lasted just two minutes before Waters doubled his tally for the afternoon.

His second was a fantastic finish into the roof of the net from just outside the six-yard box following a fast-flowing move sealed by a fantastic Butt assist.

Tom Peers impressed throughout the second period and almost grabbed a fourth when he forced Dearnley into a smart stop with a powerful effort.

Abreu sealed off his brilliant performance with his first Chester goal mid-way through the second period as he beat his marker and fired a precise strike into the bottom corner.

Dom McHale came on for his Chester FC debut late on and he almost grabbed a fifth with a fantastic curled attempt that was palmed wide by Dearnley.

A sensational afternoon for the Seals who head to Spennymoor Town next week in the Emirates FA Cup.
