Learn more about the world of a Senior Investigating Officer, from the comfort of your own home, in the latest in the University of Chester’s ‘Kitchen Sessions’.
Having successfully moved its teaching online, the University has been offering live online teaching sessions to future students and members of the public in the recently launched series of talks.
From academics’ kitchen tables and make-shift studies, the University’s lecturers have been going live from May 12 in a series of 15-minute YouTube tutorials – in a mission to bring their knowledge and expertise into homes across the country.
On Thursday, June 4, Lecturer in Policing Simon Price will explain how the British Police Service works to tried and tested formulae when it comes to such things as the investigation of homicide.
The session will outline the route of an investigation from the perspective of the SIO, giving an insight into how our lecturers, such as Simon, will encourage students on the BSc (Hons) Community Policing and Criminal Investigation programme to open their minds to numerous investigative possibilities and give consideration to the investigative tactics and options that are available to the modern-day investigator.
Simon is based in the University’s Institute of Policing, which has close links to Cheshire Constabulary and offers both undergraduate and postgraduate courses for students wishing to pursue a career in law enforcement.
The session is open to all and is free. To register, visit here.
Previous Kitchen Sessions are still available to watch and include a variety of topics including what the world would be like without advertising; Christian views of the afterlife; hidden narratives in medieval art; what it takes to break a marathon world record; and the fall of the Berlin Wall. Topical lectures include: ‘The long term let down of Environmental Law and its link with COVID-19, with Ash Murphy, Lecturer in Law; and ‘Tourism 2020: all change please’, with Dr Maeve Marmion, Head of Department, Experience Economy. To view them all visit here.
