£50k boost for Chester and Ellesmere Port summer activities

Six community summer projects for young people in Chester and Ellesmere Port are set to benefit from a share of £50,000 of criminal money from Dan Price, Cheshire Police and Crime Commissioner’s SWAP Summer Support Fund.

Back for its second year, young people and families will have the opportunity to take part in basketball, netball, darts, pool, boxing and much more, getting them out of the house and off their screens throughout the school summer holidays.

The projects in the area that successfully applied for funding are:

Ellesmere Port Youth Netball Club – putting on community netball camps with a mix of fun activities, fitness and netball skills

Rage Fitness Wellbeing Group – delivering physical activities to build resilience, wellbeing and positive life choices

Cheshire Phoenix – basketball summer camp for young people with structured basketball coaching, skills development and games

AW Coaching in the Community CIC – summer youth club for 8–16-year-olds with darts, pool, football, crafts, inflatables and dodgeball

Inspiring Futures CIC – sports and mentoring sessions including football, boxing and pool

Frodsham Youth Club - youth club sessions and family holiday support programme

This is in addition to those projects running Cheshire-wide.*

The SWAP Summer Support Fund - Safety, Working Together, Action and Prevention – takes money that was earned or acquired in a negative way and swaps it for a positive community change. It provides grants of up to £2,000 to help organisations deliver projects over a period of six to eight weeks.

This year more than 100 organisations from across the county applied for funding, with 29 being successful.

SWAP highlights Dan’s commitment to creating positive opportunities for young people across Cheshire. Each project supports the priorities set out in his Police and Crime Plan - tackling anti-social behaviour, driving early intervention and strengthening engagement. Together, they give young people positive options and help them build confidence, resilience, and stronger foundations for the future.

The projects selected all demonstrated a clear focus on supporting children and young people, promoting both physical and mental wellbeing, and reducing isolation while encouraging inclusion within their communities.

Cheshire Police and Crime Commissioner, Dan Price said:
