Cheshire West and Chester Council has announced that it has once again been accredited as a Fairtrade Community, reaffirming its commitment to promoting and supporting fairer trade and ethical purchasing across the borough.
The accreditation recognises the Council’s ongoing work with partners, businesses and community groups to promote Fairtrade and ensure that producers in low-income countries receive a fairer price for their goods.
This latest accreditation confirms the Council’s commitment, until the next assessment in June 2029, to act as a strategic partner within the borough, continuing to champion Fairtrade values and raise awareness.
The Council will continue to work to increase the visibility of Fairtrade across communities, encouraging residents, organisations and local businesses to support the movement by choosing products that carry the Fairtrade mark.
Cllr Paul Donovan the Council’s Fairtrade Champion, said:
“Being recognised again as a Fairtrade Community is something we are incredibly proud of. It reflects the passion and commitment of our residents, partners and local groups who continue to support Fairtrade in our borough.
“Choosing Fairtrade products is a simple action that can make a real difference, helping farmers and workers around the world receive fair pay and build more secure futures. By working together, we can continue to raise awareness and encourage more people to support Fairtrade through the choices they make every day.”
The accreditation builds on a programme of activity across the borough, including partnerships to promote local Fairtrade groups and promotion through council communications and activities.
Further opportunities to get involved will be highlighted during Fairtrade Fortnight, taking place from 21 September to 4 October, when residents, schools, and businesses across the borough will be encouraged to take part in activities that support fairer trade and raise awareness locally.
Residents and organisations are encouraged to get involved by supporting Fairtrade products, promoting awareness, and taking part in local initiatives that help strengthen the borough’s commitment to fairer trade.

Fairtrade is a global movement that works to secure better prices, decent working conditions and fair terms of trade for farmers and workers in developing countries.
Products carrying the FAIRTRADE Mark meet internationally agreed standards designed to protect workers’ rights, support sustainable livelihoods and promote environmental protection. By choosing Fairtrade, consumers help contribute to a fairer, more sustainable future for producers and their communities worldwide.
