People living with Parkinson’s in Wrexham and the surrounding areas are being invited to try a new walking tennis project which is helping more local communities to live well with the condition.
When: Thursday 9 July from 10am to 11am
Where: Wrexham Tennis & Padel Centre, Plas Coch Road, Wrexham, LL11 2BW
Delivered by the Wrexham Tennis & Padel Centre, the sessions are designed to help more people try walking tennis in a fun and social way. All ages and abilities are welcome to attend the sessions which are set to launch in July.
Experienced instructors can take participants through the basics of playing walking tennis and all equipment is provided.
Carers and relatives are also welcome to join in or watch the sessions, and teas and coffees are also provided.
Participants are recommended to wear comfortable active wear and footwear appropriate for playing tennis and to bring bottles of water, snacks and any medication they may need on the day.
Walking tennis can have many benefits for people living with Parkinson’s including:
Improved balance and coordination
Better strength, flexibility and mobility
Improved sense of wellbeing and mindfulness
Better memory and cognitive skills
Greater social interaction
Improved speech and communications skills
Rob Ward, Programme Manager at Wrexham Tennis & Padel Centre, said:
“Come and try our new weekly walking tennis session, no experience needed at all, we have a warm friendly environment within the centre and it will be a great opportunity to get active at your own pace and most importantly socialise with people over a coffee or tea.”
