Cheshire West and Chester Council is asking schools to make a ‘pledge to pedal’ this Cycle to School week.
Every year, schools across the UK come together to celebrate Cycle to School Week, an exciting event that encourages students and families to ditch their cars and hop on their bikes to cycle to school.
Held annually in September, the nationwide initiative highlights the many benefits of cycling to school, from improved health to reduced carbon footprint.
This year’s Cycle to School Week is from 23 to 27 September, and the Council’s Road Safety team works closely with Bikeright to ensure everyone has the training they need to take to pedal power.
The Council’s Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Environment, Transport and Highways, Councillor Karen Shore said:
“Cycle to School Week is the perfect opportunity to kickstart a lifelong love of cycling. From boosting your physical health to helping the environment, quieter safer roads and cutting down air pollution at the school gates, this event has something for everyone. So, grab your helmets and get on your bike.
“If the whole family wants to get involved, check out the family bike training available through Bikeability. The same for adult cycle training - it's free!”
Schools in Cheshire West and Chester can request free Bikeability training to levels 1, 2 and 3 as well as Bikeability Plus Balance and Learn to Ride.

If you live, work or study in Cheshire West and Chester, and are aged 18 or over, Adult Cycling Training is available. You can get tailored training at a level suited to your needs, all based on the National Cycle Training Standards and split into easy to understand modules.
Bikeability Family is a free, fun training package to help people cycle together. The training will enable families to plan enjoyable group rides, switch from driving to cycling the school run, help other family members to develop their cycling skills and grow their confidence.
Sessions can be up to six people and there needs to be at least one child and one adult on each session.
