Match Report - Buxton 0 - 0 Chester FC

Chester FC extended their unbeaten run to five matches yesterday afternoon with a solid point on the road at Buxton.

The Yellows were resolute in defence to make it three clean sheets in a row and had opportunities to take all three points – but had to settle for a draw.

Manager Calum McIntyre made four changes from the FA Cup win over Pontefract Collieries. Ollie Heywood, Alex Kenyon, Anthony Dudley and Kieran Coates all dropped out of the side – being replaced by Lewis Coulton, Matty Williams, Darren Stephenson and Jamie Morgan.

And one more change was to be enforced in a quiet opening quarter of an hour as Kole Hall limped off due to injury – Dudley brought on and had our first real opportunity.

Minutes after Harry McHugh drilled a shot from range wide, Dudley connected with an excellent Coulton pass but was denied by Theo Richardson. A huge chance presented itself to Kurt Willoughby on the rebound, but the yellows’ top scorer curled inches wide.

Buxton had a couple of chances before the break, as Scott Boden almost opened the scoring on the spin, but Williams did well to get across and block. Just before the half time whistle Sean Newton curled a free kick on target but straight into the arms of Harry Tyrer.

Harry Bunn caused alarms in the visiting defence with a dangerous cross from the left on 50 minutes, but the Seals scrambled clear.

It was a quiet second half with little to report but a chance apiece came and went before the full time whistle.

Newton connected well with a cross from the left by sub and ex-blue James Hardy, but fortunately it was straight at Tyrer and he was able to gather.

And Chester almost performed a snatch and grab late on when Willoughby met Coulton’s excellent cross from close range, but Richardson was able to save and jump on the rebound on his line.

CHESTER: Tyrer, Morgan, Burke, Williams, Coulton, Roberts, Devine, McHugh (Lynch 56), Hall (Dudley 12 (Thomas 68)), Willoughby, Stephenson.

SUBS NOT USED: Kenyon, Murray.

ATTENDANCE: 1,217.
