MATCH PREVIEW: Chester FC Women v Wythenshawe Women

Chester FC Women are at home in the league this weekend, for the first time in two weeks, as they take on Wythenshawe Women at the KGV Sports Hub.

The Blues two game winning run in the league was halted ever so slightly last weekend, as for the second time this season due to adverse weather their game with Hindley was postponed.

With no game, Chester boss Martin Fitzsimons was able to have a longer of period of time on the training ground working with his players ahead of the Wythenshawe visit to ‘correct the wrongs’ of the previous game. Chester will be looking to right the wrongs of the reverse fixture on Sunday, the Seals conceded an injury time winner and left empty handed in a five goal thriller back in October. 

Sunday’s visitors Wythenshawe Women currently find themselves in 9th place in the league having picked up three wins from their sixteen games played in the league so far to date. They come into this weekend’s clash without a league victory since mid November, that being a 2-9 win against Hindley Women.

As mentioned, Wythenshawe got one over on Chester earlier this season taking all three points on their own patch. But since then the Manchester outfit have gone eight games without a win in the league. As previously shown this season if Chester aren’t at the races on Sunday they can be punished by this Wythenshawe side.

“With no game last week, this week we’ve been able to a little more time to correct the wrongs of the previous game. It’s been a good productive week in training, the vibes been great and we produced a lot of quality, which I’m confident that will translate onto the pitch come Sunday afternoon.

“Last time out, although we scored four goals, we didn’t create as much as we would have and we wasteful with the ball in the final third. We set ourselves higher standards than we produced against Alder, and that in itself is a massive positive about this group on players. They’re not happy just to win they want to perform as best as they can.

“Last time out against Wythenshawe, we didn’t do ourselves justice and it was in the middle of our rough patch, so we’ll be going out to make sure we put that right and take the learnings we’ve had since then and be ruthless all over the pitch. The players are really looking forward to the game”.
