Chester’s Hoole Road roundabout is the home to the Chester Eco trees. Following a call for names, Forest City Projects and Cheshire West and Chester Council have now shortlisted the suggested names that are now going forward for a public vote.
- Green Tree Arena
- Three Tree Hollow
- City Forest Garden
- The Giants Glade
Councillor Matt Bryan, Cabinet Member for Climate Emergency has been involved with the project from the start, and joined volunteers last year as bulbs were planted: “Thank you for all the suggested names, for a wonderful new public space like this the naming should be done by the local community.
“All of the suggested names were considered by a partnership panel and voting has now started to pick the final name from a short list.
“The area is already attracting wildlife and has given a fantastic display of colour that will only get better over time as the plants start to cover the tree structures.”
The Forest group are a group of Eco-conscious volunteers who in collaboration delivered and now manage the Eco trees and new community space.
Sam Ryley from the group said: “We were so impressed with the responses we got for naming this new area, to be enjoyed by everyone. I’m sure which ever name is finally picked it will be adopted by the many regular visitors.
“Our criteria for the short list was to consider names that describe the space and its purpose, have a sense of fun, are good to say and hear and would make you want to go there.
“We have contacted local residents to include their votes and people who don't wish to use social media can drop us their vote via email and it will be counted.”
If you would like to vote for the final name, contact the Forest group (closing date 11 August)
