Here's the latest update from Flintshire Council on bin collections and road & pathway clearances, as a result of the very cold weather...
The latest weather forecast allows us to shift our focus to treating our Priority 2 routes.
This morning, we'll be working on town centres, car parks, and supporting waste collection on housing estates and rural lanes.
This afternoon, we'll return to treating our Priority 1 routes before temperatures drop again overnight.
Any black bins that were not collected last weekend in the areas listed below will be collected this Saturday 11 January 2025.
- Holywell, Carmel, Holway, Gorsedd, Babell, Ysceifiog, Afonwen, Caerwys, Lloc, Pantasaph, Rhosesmor, Pentre Halkyn and rural lanes around Whitford, Trelogan, Axton, Llanasa, Gwaenysgor, Trelawnyd, Tre-Mostyn, Brynford
Due to the current adverse weather conditions, there may be some disruption to the scheduled refuse and recycling rounds tomorrow.
The safety of crews, other road users and the public is paramount and therefore, the following areas may receive a limited collection or no collection
- Bagillt, Greenfield, Holywell, Talacre, Mostyn, Penyffordd, Caerwys, Hendre, Gronant, Gwespyr, Trelogan.
We will continue to review the situation and carry out further assessments throughout Saturday. We will then look to catch up on any missed collections.
Residents are advised to place their black bins out for collection again at the kerbside by 7am on the Saturday morning.
For any black bins missed this week, residents are advised to leave them at the kerbside for collection and we will endeavour to return to collect them as soon as possible.
Missed Collections
The missed bins form on our website has now reopened for any additional collections that have been missed.
We are currently experiencing a delay in re-collection of missed bins due to adverse weather and resource demand.
We will endeavour to re-collect all missed bins as soon as possible.
Alternatively, residents can make use of our Household Recycling Centres.
School Closures
Headteachers will be assessing conditions at each school location and updating our website with any closures. You can check all school closures here.
Grit bins
We have about 500 grit bins/heaps across the county. We’ve put them in places where we know there may be problems, like steep hills, sharp bends and difficult junctions.
The bins are not there to provide grit for private footways and drives. Please only use them for footways and where there is a problem on the road. Grit can be purchased from most local DIY/hardware stores or builders’ merchants.
Footway Clearance
Paved areas are only treated during severe conditions of ice or snow once the priority road routes have been cleared. This is to make sure resources are used most efficiently.
Resources will be used to treat footways once snow has settled or during periods of prolonged freezing based on priority at places including:
- Town centre footways and footways in the vicinity of shopping areas
- Footways in the vicinity of civic buildings
- Public highway in the vicinity of hospitals
- Public highway in the vicinity of residential homes/old-age pensioners flats
- Public highway in the vicinity of day-care centres
- Public highway in the vicinity of schools (during term times only)
- Footbridges
- Bus stops
Road Clearance
During periods of severe weather, we grit and clear snow from 414 miles of priority roads across Flintshire. They are chosen to maintain transport connections for as many communities as possible. They account for approximately 50% of the County’s highways and include at least one access road to each community.
