Deaf & Sensory Network welcomed partners, supporters, volunteers, service users and dignitaries from across Cheshire to Abbeywood Estate, Northwich, for a special celebration marking the charity's 50th anniversary.
The event brought together people from across the county to celebrate five decades of supporting Deaf, deafblind and people living with hearing loss and sensory impairment, while showcasing the wide range of services the charity continues to provide today.
Guests enjoyed the opportunity to explore information stands, meet the DSN team, discover the organisation's community projects and hear from speakers reflecting on the charity's remarkable journey and its vision for the future.
The celebration was attended by a number of distinguished guests, including civic leaders from across Cheshire His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Cheshire Lady Alexis Redmond MBE, the High Sheriff of Cheshire, the Lord Mayor of Chester and several local mayors joining the event to show their support for the charity and the communities it serves.
Feedback from attendees was overwhelmingly positive, with many commenting on the welcoming atmosphere, the opportunity to connect with others and the impact DSN has had on people's lives over the past five decades.
Gill Reeder, CEO of DSN, said:
"Celebrating our 50th anniversary with so many wonderful supporters, partners, volunteers, staff, trustees and service users was incredibly special. It was a fantastic opportunity to reflect on how far we've come while looking ahead to the future and the next chapter for DSN.
"I'd like to thank everyone who attended and helped make the day such a success. We were especially honored to welcome so many dignitaries from across Cheshire whose support demonstrates the importance of ensuring Deaf people and those living with sensory loss remain at the heart of our communities.
"The feedback we've received has been overwhelming and it’s wonderful to hear so many stories about the difference DSN has made over the last 50 years. We couldn't have reached this milestone without the continued support of our staff, volunteers, trustees, partners and the communities we serve, and we're excited about what the future holds."
Founded in 1976, DSN has spent the past five decades providing specialist support, advice, advocacy, British Sign Language training, community services and accessible opportunities for thousands of people across Cheshire and North East Wales. They hold statutory contracts with Cheshire West and Chester Council, Cheshire East Council and Wrexham Borough Council and Flintshire Borough Council.
As DSN enters its next 50 years, the organisation remains committed to breaking down barriers, improving accessibility and ensuring deaf people and those living with sensory loss can lead independent, connected and fulfilling lives.
