A competitive contest at Poolfoot Farm saw Fleetwood Town come out on top, against Chester FC, courtesy of a goal either side of half-time.
Fleetwood took the lead inside the opening ten minutes when a well-directed cross found the head of a home trialist, whose flicked header narrowly evaded the outstretched arm of Luke Hewitson and flew into the far corner.
Phil Parkinson’s men grew into the contest as the half progressed and a first major opportunity fell to Connor Woods, who impressed, as the number 17 saw his drilled effort gathered by the home shot-stopper.
Woods then linked up well with Billy Waters who also tested Jay Lynch, but once again the low effort found the palms of the ‘keeper.
A final chance of the half for Chester fell to a trialist who flicked a powerful header narrowly wide of the post.
A trialist for the hosts had the first opportunity after the break but was denied by a fantastic sliding challenge from Sam Reed who slotted in nicely at left-back after the interval.
Fleetwood’s second came via experienced striker Ched Evans, who latched onto a fantastic cross and nodded past Alex Brown in the visiting goal.
Centre-back Jack Kenny had our final chance as space opened up for him in the home half but his strike drifted wide from long-range.
Another test completed for Phil Parkinson’s men who travel to Warrington Town on Saturday to continue preparations for 2026/27.
First-half XI: Hewitson, Deakin, Griffin, Trialist A, Woodthorpe, Weeks, Murphy, Trialist B, Waters, Peers, Woods.
Second-half XI: Brown, Burgess, Burroughs, Kenny, Reed, Ward, Trialist C, Kennedy, Trialist D, Abreu, Hazel.
