Cheshire West and Chester Council is celebrating after receiving ten Green Flag Awards for parks and green spaces across the borough.
This marks the third consecutive year that the Council has achieved its highest-ever number of awards.
The Green Flag Award is the international quality mark for parks and green spaces, recognising sites that are welcoming, well maintained, safe and environmentally sustainable.
The achievement reflects the dedication and hard work of Council staff, Friends groups and volunteers who help care for all the borough’s green spaces and make them enjoyable for residents and visitors.
The following sites have been awarded Green Flag status for 2026:
- Caldy Nature Park
- Castle Park
- Grosvenor Park
- Rivacre Valley
- Northwich Woodlands
- Stanney Fields Park
- Westminster Park
- Whitby Park
- Helsby Quarry
- Wirral Way Country Park
Steve Telford, Chair of the Friends of Westminster Park said:
"Westminster Park benefits from an incredible community of volunteers and user groups who care deeply about the park and give their time to help keep it looking its best.
“From junior football and cricket clubs maintaining their playing areas, to dog walkers helping address issues responsibly, volunteers carrying out litter picks, and a group of local women who lovingly care for flower beds in memory of a friend.
“Working alongside Cheshire West and Chester Council staff, these groups play a vital role in maintaining the high standards that park users enjoy and in helping Westminster Park retain its prestigious Green Flag status year after year."
Councillor Stuart Bingham, the Council’s Cabinet Member for Community Safety and Neighbourhood Pride, said:
“Our parks and green spaces are at the heart of communities across west Cheshire. They provide places for people to exercise, relax, connect with nature and spend time together.
“This achievement is a testament to the commitment and passion of our staff, Friends groups and volunteers, who work tirelessly throughout the year to maintain these sites to such a high standard. Everyone involved should be extremely proud of receiving this recognition once again.”
Managed by the environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy under licence from the Government, the Green Flag Award scheme recognises and rewards well-managed parks and green spaces. It sets the benchmark standard for the management of recreational outdoor spaces across the UK and around the world.
