Work to install A41 average speed camera in Chester begins this month

New average speed cameras to improve road safety on the A41 in Chester will be installed this month.

The scheme has been made possible by funding from Cheshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner, John Dwyer, and support from Cheshire West and Chester Council.

Speeding on the A41 has regularly been raised as an issue and new cameras along one of the more dangerous stretches through Christleton and Waverton will improve the feeling of safety for residents.

Work will begin on Monday, 13 November for approximately three weeks on the A41 Whitchurch Road, between Toll Bar Road, Great Boughton and Saighton Lane, Waverton to install four average speed cameras and associated signage.

The cameras are being set-up to reinforce the existing 30mph and 40mph speed limits in place in that area.

The Council’s Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Environment, Highways and Strategic Transport, Councillor Karen Shore said:

“It’s great news that the new average speed cameras will be installed later this month.  Drivers not observing the clear speed limits on this stretch of road has previously resulted in tragic accidents. We want to do everything possible to make the borough’s roads safer for everyone.”

Police and Crime Commissioner, John Dwyer, said:

“Making Cheshire’s roads safer is a priority in my Police and Crime Plan. Average speed cameras are a big part of achieving this, and I am grateful to the Council for working in partnership on this project.

“I look forward to seeing the positive difference this will make for road safety in the area.”

To minimise disruption to the travelling public the installation works will be carried out during off peak times using temporary traffic signals.
