Blues Match Report: Warrington Town 0 - 2 Chester FC

Chester FC came out on top, at Cantilever Park, courtesy of second-half strikes from Sam Reed and Nathan Woodthorpe!

A quiet first-half saw very little goalmouth action at either end, with much of the contest played in the central third in the Warrington sunshine.

Connor Woods looked a threat down the right-hand side and combined with Billy Waters on a number of occasions without a crucial final ball to test Mateusz Hewelt in the home goal.

The first sign of intent in the contest saw Joe Rodwell-Grant take aim from just outside the box only for a sliding challenge from Declan Weeks to block the effort.

Waters came close to an shot inside the six-yard box as the interval grew nearer but the chance was sniffed out by Lewis Earl and it remained goalless.

Eleven changes in total were made by boss Phil Parkinson before the hour mark as the Blues began to test the home back line with more frequency in the second period.

The breakthrough arrived 20 minutes following the break as a brilliant run by Trialist E saw the ball fall to Sam Reed who, operating on the right-side of a front three, managed to poke a clever strike past Hewelt and into the bottom corner.

Alex Brown was called into action five minutes later as he got down well to deny a well-directed volleyed effort from Kai Murphy.

The second came with 18 minutes remaining via a fantastic effort from Nathan Woodthorpe from long-range.

Great interplay from Jacob Hazel, Harry Deakin and Dan Ward saw the ball break for our number three who sent a powerful strike into the corner from around 25 yards a strike, a finish of quality from Woodthorpe.

The Blues managed the remainder of the second half in reasonably comfortable fashion and now look ahead to the visit of Stoke City on Tuesday evening.

Second XI: Brown, Deakin, Burgess, Griffin, Woodthorpe, Ward, Murphy, Trialist E, Hazel, Reed, Moore.
