Parking charges to come into effect at Wepre Park

Parking charges will be introduced at Wepre Park from next week to help manage and maintain access to one of Flintshire’s most popular green spaces.

Wepre Park attracts thousands of visitors every year from across the county and the wider region.

While this popularity reflects its importance as a destination for recreation, nature and heritage, a significant increase in both vehicle numbers and footfall in recent years has placed additional pressure on the site and its facilities.

Income generated through parking charges will support the ongoing maintenance of the car park, while enabling better management of the site by helping to ensure spaces remain available for park users and discouraging long-stay parking.

Ahead of the changes, new traffic management measures have also been implemented on nearby streets to address concerns about displacement parking.

The new charges will apply from Monday, July 27th, seven days a week from 9am to 9pm, including Bank Holidays. Charges will be £1 for up to two hours, £2 for up to four hours, and £4 for a full day. Annual permits can also be purchased for £50.

“Wepre Park is one of Flintshire’s most valued green spaces and an important asset for residents and visitors. The introduction of parking charges is a necessary step to help us better manage the increased vehicle numbers and ensure the car park can continue to be maintained to a high standard.

“We’ve been mindful to keep the charges low, with tariffs starting from just £1, so the park remains affordable and accessible to all those who enjoy it.”

Wepre Park’s 160 acres of woodland, open green space and visitor facilities are cared for by the Council’s Access and Natural Environment Service. In recent years, improvements have been made to accommodate rising visitor numbers, including upgrades to the overflow car park in 2021 through Welsh Government Recovery Grant funding.
