Update from West Cheshire Foodbank

For some the pandemic has brought particular hardship and as such the West Cheshire Foodbank has seen a rise in use and they have been combining with other community organisations to ensure they help the most vulnerable get through this crisis.

As I'm sure you can all appreciate we have all been experiencing a unique set of circumstances this year. But it is a year when the role of the Foodbank has been more vital than ever.   Adapting to these changes as an organisation and individuals, not wanting to encourage any non-essential trips out or face to face interaction and keeping on top of our regular work, has been a bit of a balancing act.

Please bear with us as we try to keep up with communication as best we can. For more immediate and regular updates, make sure you are following our social media accounts:

Thank you so much for your continued support!
COVID-19 & Foodbank Usage

We hugely appreciate the support and donations we have received during this difficult time. People's generosity continues to be remarkable.  For some the pandemic has brought particular hardship and as such we have seen a rise in use of our Foodbank and we have been combining with other community organisations to ensure we help the most vulnerable get through this crisis.

From March to September 2019 we provided food for a total of 5,440 people. This year and between March and September we have supplied food to 6,284 people, a rise of 844 people since last year, which is just over a 15% increase.  Although the figures are difficult to compare because other organisations have also been fulfilling a similar role.

We are unfortunately expecting demand to increase further in the coming months due to the the furlough scheme coming to an end this month, and increases in redundancies.  We continue to see a new wave of virus cases spreading, especially here in the North West, leading to more need for shielding and staying home.  Undoubtedly the prolonged nature of this crisis will stretch people's ability to maintain their support for others in the community.

These difficult times can feel even harder and more isolating as the days begin to get shorter and as we head into winter, so please continue to reach out for support for yourself or your loved ones if necessary.

A huge thank-you to anyone who has donated to or volunteered for us so far this year.  So many people have made a real extra effort to help.  You have made and continue to make a huge difference to those who are struggling. Please don't feel the need to make unadvised trips or compromise your own safety in order to help us, but of course all offers of safe support and donations are greatly encouraged and appreciated.

Harvest & Other Donations
A huge thank you to all schools, churches, organisations and individuals who have donated to us as part of their Harvest festivities so far, including Saughall All Saints C of E Primary School, St James' Church Christleton, Capenhurst C of E Primary School, Hoole C of E Primary school, Frodsham C of E Primary School and St Luke's Church, (some shown in the images below). Be sure to tag us on social media with any future donations so we can share and encourage others to do the same!
Also a belated thank-you for some of the donations we have received over the past few months, including donations from Chester FC Community Trust, Farrall's Group and Chester Marathon - who donated the snacks that would have been used in their 2020 goody bags.  Special thanks to Frodsham Choir who have donated a massive £2000+ to us, from their monthly subscriptions and workers and contractors at Veolia who donated £3,000!   We also received donations from Oliver & Co. Solicitors and Dee Communications Ltd towards a defibrillator for our warehouse which was kindly fitted by British Gas!   Chester Pride are already planning to boost food donations via a Reverse Advent Calendar in November (see our Facebook page for details).
Apologies if we have missed out anyone here! All of your support and donations are greatly appreciated and we try to share news of these more immediately on our social media platforms. If you or your organisation is collecting for / donating to us, be sure to tag us on Twitter or Facebook so we can share!
