Long-standing Flintshire Councillor Hilary McGuill sadly passed away on Saturday 11th April at the age of 76.
Councillor McGuill was a highly respected member of the Council, known for her dedication to public service and commitment to her community of Argoed and New Brighton.
She held various roles on the Council since being elected in 1999, most recently as Chair of the Constitution and Democratic Services Committee and was proud to serve as the Chair of the Council in 2011.
Councillor McGuill had a firm belief that fairness and compassion were fundamental to effective public service.
Her commitment to social justice and her belief in giving a voice to those who might otherwise go unheard were evident in everything she did, particularly as a long serving and dedicated member of the Social and Health Care Overview & Scrutiny Committee, which she has Chaired for a number of years since 2008. She also served on Argoed Community Council for over 20 years.
Council Leader Dave Hughes, said:
“Councillor McGuill was a dedicated and hard-working councillor who cared deeply about her community and people, particularly those who were vulnerable or had been displaced. She worked tirelessly to make a difference.
“Beyond her work as a councillor, she was a much-loved mother and grandmother and was held in the highest regard amongst the local community.
“Councillor McGuill will be missed by all of her colleagues and friends at Flintshire County Council, and our thoughts are with her family and friends at this sad time.”
As a mark of respect to Councillor McGuill, the flags outside Ty Dewi Sant were flown at half-mast.
