Temporary one-way system on Civic Way in Ellesmere Port

Work started last month to build a new bus interchange along Civic Way in Ellesmere Port. Following demolition of the old bus station in the autumn, building will start on a new Hub building for the town.

Work has been progressing well, the next stage will include a one-way Temporary Traffic Regulation Order starting on Monday 20 July that will be in place until the end of the Civic Way works in mid-October.

The one-way traffic order will divert drivers from Whitby Road along Stanney Lane and Wellington Road. Civic Way will be one-way only west towards Whitby Road.

Councillor Karen Shore, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Environment, Highways and Strategic Transport said: "We are working with businesses along Whitby Road and surrounding the construction trying to keep disruption to a minimum but all construction projects by their nature will create some inconveniences. I’d like to thank residents and businesses for their patience.

“The project has experienced only a minimum delay due to Coronavirus and it’s good to see the construction fully underway. We expect this phase of the works to be completed in October. Once buses move to Civic Way, work will start at the old bus station.”

During the works, buses continue to use the old bus station and car parks are all open. There is a one-way pedestrian system through the Port Arcades, Ellesmere Port Market is open, shoppers can use the main entrance opposite Asda that also has a new al fresco eating area.

The Hub building is scheduled for completion in autumn 2021 to provide local people with easy access to essential public services in a modern and energy efficient building.  The building will bring together a wide range of important public services including; community safety and crime prevention, housing support, employment, skills and learning guidance, welfare and benefits support, and health and wellbeing.

The Government’s Local Growth Fund is funding half of the £16 million project through the Cheshire and Warrington Local Enterprise Partnership.
