MATCH REPORT: WARRINGTON TOWN 2 - 4 CHESTER FC WOMEN

Chester FC Women made it ten straight league wins and kept up the pressure on leaders Wythenshawe, with an important victory at Warrington Town.

Martin Fitzsimons’ side fell behind on 17 minutes when a corner from the hosts was headed into their own net by a Chester defender, but they hit back almost instantly as top scorer Molly Wood fired home on the follow up after Sarah Redman had initially been denied from point blank range.

The Blues took the lead into half time as Ellie Bradley’s cutback was turned home by Charlotte Dowell.

Chester came out into the second half the brighter of the two sides, as both Wood and Dowell were denied by the ‘keeper, before the hosts equalised against the run of play on the hour mark.

But the Seals were not to be held down for long and snatched the lead back midway through the second half. Bradley, who had been denied a goal early on by the offside flag, turned home at the end of a goalmouth scramble to make it 3-2.

The points were made well and truly safe in the fourth minute of stoppage time as sub Emma Gray calmly rounded up the home goalkeeper and converted the fourth.

With Wythenshawe not in action the Blues moved level on points at the top, albeit having played a game more and having an inferior goal difference.

Chester: Foster, Sands, Riley, Randles, Adderley, Locke, Wood, Dowell (Morris 64), Redman, Bradley (Palin 87), Halliwell (Gray 79).

Scorers: Wood 24, Dowell 43, Bradley 67, Gray 90+4.
