MATCH PREVIEW: HINDLEY JUNIORS v CHESTER FC WOMEN

Chester FC Women are on the road this weekend, as they make the short trip away to face 9th place Hindley Women looking to record a seventh consecutive league win.

The Blues return to league action this weekend following a week off, with their scheduled game at home to Altrincham being postponed last Sunday due to a frozen pitch.

Prior to last weeks postponement, Chester made it six league victories on the spin thanks to a highly impressive 4-2 away win at Runcorn Linnets.

A player of the match performance from Blues midfielder Rach Lloyd following a fantastic hattrick and a penalty from Molly Wood saw Chester leapfrog their opponents into 2nd place in the table.

Sunday’s hosts Hindley come into this weekend’s game on the back of a three game losing streak, with their most recent win coming back in late September. They currently find themselves in 9th place in the table, having only played two league games in the last two months.

Chester claimed all three points when the sides met in the reverse fixture in early October, a rampant Blues side recorded an impressive 6-1 win. The win ended Hindley’s four match winning sequence.

MANAGER’S THOUGHTS

“Last time out against Runcorn, I was really impressed with our management of the over all game. We weren’t as free flowing as we would have liked or have been in recent weeks. However, against Runcorn, it was always going to be difficult. They are a well organised team who are more than capable of taking opportunities that come their way. The game was more open than we would have liked. In the first half we felt we were good value for the lead, having a penalty shout turned down and hitting the crossbar and scored two good goals via Rach Lloyd.

“The second half was more of an even contest, and we didn’t control the game as much as we would have liked. There we moments of the game that we felt fully in control and then the momentum would switch there way. Ultimate, the second half came down to who could take their chances. Fortunately, that was us.

“We’ll need to have a look at the moments we’re they gained the upper hand and see how we can combat that in future weeks, definitely. However sometimes in football, in the game, you need to ride those moments and regain composure and time again we did that. That’s been a real development in us this year, so it’s pleasing for me we did that against a team such as Runcorn. Winning ‘ugly’ isn’t something we’ve been great at in the past so it’s pleasing that throughout the game we matched their physicality and played. Then the second half we regained our composure in difficult moments.

“This week, it’s never ideal to have a weekend off especially when we have a good run of form and historically, Hindley is always a difficult place to go to, but this year this group relishes though type of challenges and we’re entirely focused on going there and getting the three points back home.

“Hopefully the pitch is good to go, and we can start to play our football and get back in the groove!”
