Ellesmere Port and Bromborough MP Justin Madders has welcomed the imminent reopening of the NHS Eastham Walk-In Centre following a successful online petition.
The centre, which treats non-life-threatening conditions without appointments, was closed temporarily, but concerns grew when the closure became open-ended.
Wirral Community Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust has now confirmed it will reopen from Monday, February 9th, following a safe staffing review. More than 1,300 people signed a petition launched by Mr Madders calling for its urgent reopening.
Mr Madders said:
“I want to thank everyone who signed and shared the petition. Your voices mattered and show that community action can make a real difference.
“What was meant to be a four-week closure became open-ended, forcing vulnerable patients to travel further for urgent care and placing extra pressure on families. While other factors played a role, public concern helped keep this issue front and centre. I will continue to monitor the situation as services resume.”
The walk-in centre was originally due to close between 15th December and 11th January to allow staff redeployment during winter pressures. Mr Madders raised concerns in Parliament from the outset and received backing from Health Secretary Wes Streeting that the closure should only be short-term.
While the service was closed, Eastham Clinic has continued to provide community nursing, continence care and speech and language therapy.
Mr Madders said the reopening marked “a significant win” for local residents.
Alternative walk-in provision remains available at:
- Victoria Central Walk-In Centre, Wallasey
- Urgent Treatment Centre, Arrowe Park Hospital, Upton
- Minor Injury & Illness Service, Miriam Medical Centre, Birkenhead
