Flintshire County Council are inviting carers, local businesses and other supporters to get involved in Carers Week 2025, running from 9th - 15th June.
This year’s theme, ‘Caring about Equality’, focuses on raising awareness of the challenges unpaid carers face and recognises their vital role in families and communities. It also encourages people to identify as carers and seek support. This year’s theme highlights the inequalities carers experience—such as poverty, isolation, and poor health—and how caring responsibilities often limit opportunities in education, careers, and personal life.
There are approximately 18,000 people in Flintshire caring for a family member, friend or neighbour who is ill, older or disabled. Many people don’t see themselves as carers at first—they’re simply helping someone they love or care about. For some, caring begins gradually; for others, it can start suddenly. Carers Trust Wales reports that 3 in 5 people in Wales will become a carer at some point in their lives.
Councillor Christine Jones, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member Social Services, Flintshire County Council said:
‘Carers Week offers an important chance for the Flintshire community to unite in acknowledging the vital role carers play in supporting some of the most vulnerable individuals. It also serves to highlight the challenges they face, such as increased risks of poverty, social isolation, and both mental and physical health issues.”
