Cheshire West and Chester Council is supporting Road Safety Week with Brake, the road safety charity to raise awareness of vehicle safety.
Organised by Brake, the road safety charity, Road Safety Week 2025 runs from 16 to 22 November, which began with the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims on Sunday 16 November.
Road Safety Week highlights the shocking fact that 1,671 people died on UK roads last year, and a further 28,804 suffered serious, life-changing injuries. (Sources 1 and 2 below)
This year, the theme of Road Safety Week is Safe Vehicles Save Lives, raising awareness of how safe vehicles can make roads safer by being roadworthy, preventing crashes and protecting people in the event of a crash.
The Council’s Cabinet Member for Transport and Highways, Councillor Karen Shore said: “Safer vehicles save lives and we’re very happy to support the important messages from Brake during their campaign.
“Advice and tips for car and cycle checks will appear on our social media channels during Road Safety Week. We can all play our part to keep make our roads safer for everyone.”

Recognising the importance of road safety, the Council is now chair of the Cheshire Road Safety Group which aims to reduce the number of casualties on our roads. As part of the campaign, the Council’s Road Safety Team is joining up with partners to deliver Crucial Crew. Crucial Crew is a multi-agency project that provides an interactive way of teaching year 6 children to become more aware of personal safety, learn how to react to dangerous situations, practice safety skills within a controlled environment and gain knowledge that can be carried into the wider community and used in their everyday lives.
Road Safety Week 2025 is delivered by Brake, the road safety charity, and sponsored by Autoglass, Hastings Direct, Motive and Samsara.
About Brake, the road safety charity:
Brake is a national road safety charity, founded in 1995, that exists to stop deaths, serious injuries and pollution on roads, and to care for families bereaved and injured in road crashes.
Brake campaigns for safe and healthy roads through seeking government policies and investment to end the carnage, and through projects that help communities, schools and employers promote safe and pollution-free streets locally. Brake delivers Road Safety Week, the UK’s biggest road safety campaign.
Brake is the national provider of care and support to victims of road crashes and their families through the National Road Victim Service, helping families cope with the shock, turmoil and devastation that road crashes cause families across the UK every day.
