A new music project emerging from Connah’s Quay is quickly gaining attention.
Anonymous artist Lilac Rug releases debut single “Lift it England”—a modern football anthem already making waves online. Blending high-energy dance and techno influences reminiscent of the early-to-mid 1990s, “Lift it England” has struck a chord with listeners ahead of this summer’s World Cup in North America. In just a matter of days, the track has surpassed 4,000 streams on Spotify, putting it on course for potential chart impact later this week.
While the artist behind Lilac Rug has chosen to remain anonymous, they have shared subtle clues about their roots: a proud resident of Connah’s Quay, a lifelong Tranmere Rovers supporter, and the son of a late musician who achieved chart success under the guidance of legendary producer Joe Meek.
Speaking about the release, Lilac Rug said:
“This song is for the fans as much as the players—something fresh, energetic, and modern to take with them to the World Cup.” Distinct from classic England anthems like Three Lions and Back Home, “Lift it England” aims to represent a new era—capturing the energy of today’s supporters with a contemporary sound.
"With momentum building locally and beyond, Flintshire may be witnessing the rise of its next musical success story—albeit one wrapped in mystery. “Lift it England” is available now on all major streaming platforms.
