Community Update - North Flintshire

The North Flintshire Community Teams have been actively putting in place initiatives to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour.

Our initiatives will be delivered through our engagement, problem solving and targeted activity. Our vision is for us to build a legacy we can be proud of, which will ensure North Wales is the safest place for people to live, work and visit.

The policing team have continued to increase their visibility across the district, which will continue throughout half term. Our engagement will be advertised, we are keen to hear what is happening within our communities, so please come over and say hello.

Last week, we were involved in several community events across the district at Tesco in Holywell, Abakhan in Mostyn and Flint Football ground to name a few. Two of our Sergeants and response teams took advantage of the good weather, returning to basics as they performed high visibility foot patrols along Dock Road and the coastal path, Garden City and Shotton areas.

I also had the pleasure of meeting AM Hannah Blythyn to discuss partnership working across the district. I joined MP Mark Tami and our Police and Crime Commissioner, Andy Dunbobbin at a Connahs Quay warm hub, which has been set up by local residents to support the community. We had some interesting discussions and agreed how our engagement would look moving forward to ensure we are connected with our communities. We were made to feel welcome; the hospitality was amazing with plenty of hot drinks, cakes and biscuits available.

Over the weekend, I was part of the Policing team (Public Order Commander) for the Wrexham vs Oldham football match. The atmosphere around the Racecourse fortress was unbelievable. The chanting of 'Super Mullin' could be heard some distance away. It was nice to see so many happy fans, all singing together and enjoying history being written (many of which I recognise as Flintshire residents). Having worked the reverse fixture, it's fair to say the atmosphere was somewhat different. I always enjoy working the football, particularly returning to Wrexham where my career started. So much has changed over such a short time. Apparently, I need to stop referring to the 'town centre' having been corrected several times...'It's a City'

Returning to Flintshire, we have certainly kept custody busy over the past week, with several arrests for a variety of offences including assaults, domestic abuse, breaches of bail, recalls to prison and drink driving – all of which will not be tolerated and positive action will always be taken.

Three males are also in custody this morning having been arrested following a public order offence in the early hours of April 3rd where a male was assaulted and sustained serious injuries. Robust action will be taken against anyone who behaves in such a way.

Anyone who witnessed the incident, or anyone with information that could assist with our investigation, can contact us via the website or on 101, using reference number 23000280044.

We were also made aware of possible tensions between fans attending a local football game between Flint Mountain and Bangor 1876 at the Essity Stadium on Friday, March 31st. As a result, high visibility patrols were increased in the area around the ground and no issues were reported.

Officers were also in attendance to assist the fire service with crowd control following a fire at a dry cleaner on Fron Road, Connah’s Quay, on Saturday, April 1s – however, I can confirm no arrests were made following the incident, contrary to local speculation on social media.
