Chinese New Year will be hosted online from Chester, with access for all, from anywhere in the world

Chinese New Year of the Ox 12/2/21 to be hosted online from Chester, with access for all, from anywhere in the world.

The Wah Lei Chinese Association, a charity group from Chester that also teaches Mandarin language classes are preparing for Chinese New Year with cultural performances on 12/2/21 at 12pm, on their Facebook page. Then in collaboration with the Bank of America on 17/2/21 at 12-1pm there will be a live online Chinese New Year and Spring festival celebration.

The festival will include live streaming of workshops and storytelling that children can take part in with their families. There will also be cultural dance, music and martial arts performances from Chester, Wrexham, Manchester and London. Performers include Le Wu Yuan, Ji Sui Tai Chi Chuan and special appearance from Tai Panda, Chester; Northwest Harmony Group, Manchester; Lion Dance from Hung Gar Academy, Liverpool; Maggie Qiang, Wrexham;Ayesha Tan-Jones, London.

Mia Tan Chair of Wah Lei Chinese Association said “Chinese New Year is one of the most important dates in the Chinese festival calendar. People usually travel home to celebrate Chinese New Year with their families and due to Coronavirus restrictions this year many of our members are separated from their loved ones, families, and friends. Many of our members would normally be travelling home to Chester but will remain in other parts of the country and our members will be performing virtually to help us celebrate Chinese New Year. We hope to bring some cheer and happiness into people’s homes.We wish everyone a Happy Chinese New Year, that they keep well and stay safe.”
