Chester children’s charity given vital boost by Deva Masonic Lodge

Children Today Charitable Trust has received a vital boost from Deva Masonic Lodge thanks to a £500 donation from the group.

Charles McIlwrick MBE, the outgoing Worshipful Master of Deva Masonic Lodge No 3447, who meet at Cheshire View in Christleton, had the honour of selecting charities to receive a donation following his Mastership.

The Chester-based charity provides support for disabled children and young adults throughout the UK.

The services and vital adapted equipment – such as adapted trikes, adapted buggies and sensory equipment – that Children Today offers is often truly life-changing for not only the children they support but their whole family too.

Charles says: “Having searched for local charities and discovering that Children Today was once based in Christleton, I was keen to find out more about the charity and its work. After receiving a very informative newsletter I was keen to highlight this very deserving cause to the committee, and was delighted that they unanimously agreed to make a donation of £500.

“I think the work carried out by Children Today is excellent and unfortunately so necessary in this day and age.”

A cheque was presented to Lexi Heselwood, communications manager at Children Today, at the charity’s office.

Lexi comments: “On behalf of everyone here at Children Today and the children and families we support, I want to thank Charles and the Deva Masonic Lodge for choosing to donate to Children Today. As a small charity we rely solely on contributions from individuals and organisations, so donations like these go a long way to helping the children and families who so desperately need our help.

“There are so many aspects of daily life that we often take for granted, from simply being comfortable, to getting out and about or being able to spend quality time with friends and family. For many disabled people these things can be fraught with difficulty. But something like an adapted buggy, adapted trike or sensory equipment can have a huge impact – enabling a family to take a trip to the beach for the first time; providing opportunities for essential exercise or helping to manage and self-regulate behaviour.”
