Chester and Wirral Football League - Weekend Update

Here's the latest results in the Chester and Wirral Football League...

CWFL Queensferry Sports Premier Division:

The CWFL Premier Division’s featured game of the day showcased the encounter between second-placed Christleton FC and Fourth placed FC Farndon at Little Heath. Before delving into the match report, the Christleton Management, backroom staff, and players alike would like to express their gratitude for the commendable efforts of the volunteer grounds team. Despite the recent weather conditions, individuals such as Bernard McLaughlan, Roy Denham and Phil Ansonia have tirelessly worked behind the scenes ensuring the games proceed as scheduled. Their dedication is pivotal, and without these volunteers, the amateur game would undoubtedly suffer.

With the pitch good to go it was Christleton who opened the scoring in the 19^th minute thanks to a quick counter-attack which resulted in Farndon scoring an own goal. On 24^th minutes a brilliant Ben Parry cross was headed home by Aaron Lloyd to level matters and straight from the restart Farndon pressed, winning the ball back before Joel Edwards chipped the ball to Lee Parry who made no mistake to put Farndon ahead 2-1. Half time substitute Danny Mongan then made it 3-1 as he pounced after Matty Sheridan had hit the crossbar. On around 60 minutes Christleton looking to get back in the game countered and Jack Harding gave them hope when he slotted home from a cut back. The action continued and five minutes later it was 3-3 as a clever free kick allowed Joe Bowlder to finish.  With both teams searching for a winner, it was left until the 92^nd minute when Sam Davenport beat three men and passed to goal machine Lee Parry who buried the ball into the bottom corner to the delight of the Farndon line. However, the dramatic turn continued as literally seconds from the restart, Farndon committed a costly mistake, conceding possession and allowing debutant Ted Williams to roll the ball into an empty net to send the Christleton line wild with the last kick of the game to make it 4-4!  A great game no doubt but a result which does no favour to either club in the pursuit to chop down Waggons huge lead at the top.

Waggon & Horses capitalized on the opportunity, securing a flawless ten victories. James Lloyd, Jord O’Brien and Ellis Moore were the architects of a 3-1 triumph on the road against Moreton FC, with Alex Pugh finding the target for the home team. With this win, Waggon now have a firm grip on the league title, and their sights are now undoubtedly set on maintaining their perfect start to the league and now at the halfway stage you would not bet against them going unbeaten or even winning every game!

Sutton Rangers secured a hard-earned point against Blacon Youth thanks to efforts from Shakeel Sterling and Danny Carr.  On the scoresheet for Blacon was Jack Rowlands and Aaron Rowlands.

CWFL Olympic Trophies Championship:

Only one game in the Championship as Handbridge and Hoole Rovers battled out a 2-2 draw. Andrew Pratt and Adam Hodgson were on target from Handbridge and Hoole had Andy McKibbon and Ozzy Shabadi to thank for their goals.

Northern Cup 1^st round:

Not a great day in the Northern cup for CWFL teams as both Upton JFC youth and Neston Nomads Reserves both went out. Upton JFC were defeated 3-0 by Cheshire league 2 side Clay Brow, whilst Neston Nomads were unlucky to go out on penalties away at Garswood United Reserves from the Cheshire Reserve league after the game had finished 1-1. Joel Hall scoring for Neston in normal time.

CWFL Tarvin Precision Vets Division 5:

Wirral Masters Vets went top of Division 5 with a hard earned 1-0 win against Cheshire Vikings Vets. Chris Atherton was the Masters hero as 10-man Wirral hung on to secure the points.

Poulton Athletic Vets had Fran Tolman on target with a brace and was supplemented with strikes from Mick McCann and Ste Hendo as Poulton ran out 4-2 winners against Witton Vets who replied with strikes from Dave Shore and Scott McGauley.

Frodsham Vets moved up to third with a brilliant 2-0 victory against previous leaders Port Sunlight Vets, Chris Davies, and Rob Davies both finding the net for Frodsham.
