Here are the latest results from the Chester & Wirral Football League...
Newton Athletic were presented with the CWFL Queensferry Premier Division Trophy on Saturday to cap off a fine season, following last Saturday’s Dee 106.3 League Cup victory over Upton JFC Reserves. Gary Owen (Queensferry Sports) and Tony Summer (CWFL life member) were both on hand to present the silverware, with Queensferry Sports having been a proud sponsor for an incredible 41 years.
Mersey Royal Vets completed the third leg of another superb campaign when they were crowned champions of the CWFL Tarvin Precision Vets Division 1. With the Vets Cheshire Cup and the CWFL Life Members open age cup already in the bag, Manager David Carrington made it nine titles in a row—a brilliant feat at any level of football—and with rumours this may be his last season, it would be a fitting way to bow out.
Division Five also saw Cheshire Vikings presented with the CWFL Division 5 Tarvin Precision Vets trophy after a fine season saw them finish unbeaten in the league with an incredible +73 goal difference. Congratulations go to Cheshire Vikings.
Congratulations are also in order for Birkenhead Vets, who have been crowned Division 2 champions without having to kick a ball. Despite end-of-season pressure from the chasing Ellesmere Port Red Lions, Birkenhead Vets' early-season form proved to be the difference in the run-in.
Congratulations are additionally in order for Blacon Youth Vets, who have been crowned Division Three champions.
Last Monday saw one game in the Queensferry Sports Premier Division take place, where Blacon Youth Reserves netted three times through Danny Davies, Joe Jones, and Caleb Rose, but Chester Nomads struck back with three goals of their own to see the game end in a 3-3 stalemate.
Saturday saw just one fixture in the Premier Division, where Handbridge had Sam Robinson on target, but Cestrian went one better, with efforts from Josh Camy and a superb halfway-line strike from Arnie Djedje sealing the points for Cestrian.
In Tarvin Precision Vets Division 4 action, West Kirby went goal-crazy with an 8-0 demolition job on Nags Head Bunbury, as Nick Pickering bagged four, Jon Oliver hit a double, and Tommy Raven and Ian Linwood completed the scoring.
Davenham Vets secured a convincing 3-0 victory over Hoole Rangers Vets. Meanwhile, in Division Five, Port Sunlight completed a fine season to secure second position with a 3-1 victory over Hoole Wanderers Vets thanks to goals from Joe Atkins, Chris Cooper, and Danny McKune.
