Here's the latest results from the Chester and Wirral Football League...
The weekend’s action kicked off on Friday night in the CWFL Doug Johnson Shield, where Birkenhead Vets secured a 4-2 victory over Upton JFC Vets. Kevin Oats led the way with a brace, while Ricci Loughran and Terry Cotgrave added the finishing touches to complete the scoring. On the same evening in CWFL Tarvin Precision Vets Division Two, goals from Tom Cairns and Danny Andrews earned Chester Nomads Vets a 2-0 win to secure three points against Eastham Vets.
Saturday’s limited programme was headlined by a sensational Cayzer Shield clash between M.U.C United and Higher Bebington Kelma Reserves. Given both sides' reputations for high-scoring encounters this season, it was no surprise when the match ended in a thrilling 4-4 stalemate after 90 minutes. Adam Hagger (2), Sherali Muhammed, and Jamal Muhammed were on target for United, while Kelma struck back through Tyler Abram, Jake Bernard, Neil Callister, and Matty Hurst. It was M.U.C United who eventually held their nerve in the subsequent penalty shootout, prevailing 4-3 to progress.
In the CWFL Queensferry Premier Division, Newton Athletic climbed to the top of the league table after a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Blacon Youth Reserves. Strikes from Liam Bradley, Matt Robinson, and Harvey Andrew did the damage, rendering Caden Allman and Tom Hulturn’s efforts for Blacon mere consolations.
Elsewhere in the Doug Johnson Shield, Higher Bebington Kelma Vets proved too clinical for a spirited Vineyard vets side, running out 6-3 winners. Marc Jones stole the show with a clinical hat-trick, supported by an Anton Jolley double and an Eamon Buhalfia strike.
Winsford Vets despite knocking out Mersey Royal Vets in the previous round came unstuck against Ellesmere Port Red Lions Vets who ran out 4-1 winners with goals from Matty Fowler (2), Ben Powell (1) and Graham Davidson (1). Meanwhile Hartford Vets also progressed with a 3-1 victory over Tarvin Vets thanks to Luke Wilkinson brace and a Mike Jones effort.
