Here's the latest results from the Chester and Wirral Football League...
Newton Athletic closed to within three points of CWFL Queensferry Premier Division leaders Whitegate after a commanding 4–0 win over Upton JFC Reserves on Saturday. Liam Bradley led the way with a brace, with Tom Royal and Danny Eaton also on the scoresheet. With two games in hand, Newton now have the opportunity to move ahead of the long-time leaders, while a crucial showdown awaits on 21 February when they travel to Whitegate in a fixture that could prove decisive in the title race.
Elsewhere, Chester Nomads Thirds piled further misery on bottom side Hoole Rovers with an emphatic 5–0 victory. Trey Lattie was the standout performer, helping himself to a hat-trick, while Lochlan Hardy and Tim Ashbrook added further goals.
Marley Jones, who struck twice, and Sol Meredith found the net for Handbridge but were edged out in a 4–3 thriller by Blacon Reserves. Taylor Owen, Caden Allman, Ellis Moore and Joe Jones scored for Blacon to seal the points.
Great Sutton Reserves booked their place in the next round of the Cayzer Shield with a crushing 9–1 win over Elton JFC. Danny Lewis and Joe Tittle both claimed hat-tricks, while Josh Burgess, Ollie Galloway and Mo Elhafsi completed the rout. Jim King scored a consolation for Elton.
In the vets section, Mersey Royal Vets responded in style to last week’s rare defeat with an 11-goal blitz away at Crew Vets on Friday night. Ian Sheridan was in blistering form with four goals, Mike Burke netted a hat-trick and Chris Bowe added a brace, with Shaun Parrington and James Beattie also on target. The result sends Royal back to the summit on goal difference, with Sefton and Capenhurst Vets level on points in what promises to be an exciting run-in.

Josh Ackerley scored twice, supported by goals from Dave Smith, Scott Beach, Matt Norton and Tom Jones, while Waverton replied through Chris Nicholson, Rob Okell and Paul Caputo. Unbeaten leaders Blacon Vets made it eight wins from eight with a narrow 2–1 success against Frodsham Vets, James Green and Luke Jackson scoring before Ant Ollier pulled one back. Vineyard were also convincing, seeing off Tarvin Vets 4–0.
