BLUES MATCH REPORT: CHESTER FC 1 - 1 SPENNYMOOR TOWN

Chester FC drew 1 - 1 against Spennymoor Town, at the Leap76 stadium, in a match that lacked creativity for both sides.

An afternoon full of frustration, but it is now nine games unbeaten for the Seals.

First chance of the match fell to Chester . The ball sat up for favourably for George Glendon, but he could only send a volley straight at Brad James who comfortably tipped the ball over the bar.

Both teams struggled to find any rhythm for the large majority of the opening half hour with possession changing hands frequently.

Christian Norton sealed his return to the starting line-up with a goal to put the Blues ahead. Iwan Murray squeezed the ball into George Glendon who feinted to shoot before drilling the ball towards the bottom left corner.

It was blocked valiantly by Lebrun Mbeka but he could only clear it into the path of Norton who tapped it in confidently.

On the stroke of halftime Calum McIntyre’s men thought they had doubled the advantage after Tom Peers had tapped in, but our number seven was adjudged to be offside.

It was good work by Norton again who saw his long-range effort spilled by the Spennymoor ‘keeper into the path of Peers but he had just mistimed his movement.

Moments after thinking they had scored their second, the Seals conceded. Against the run of play, Finley Shrimpton placed the ball into the roof of Stanway’s net, following a corner by Matty Dolan.

It was a lofted cross which Stanway managed to claw away but Chester failed to clear, and Shrimpton showed composure to level the score.

To say the second half was an anti-climax would be an understatement. Chester had the lion share of the ball and had sustained pressure on the Moors’ backline but couldn’t fashion any clear chances.

Declan Weeks and Kevin Roberts both had half chances towards the end of the game, but Chester never looked convincing in front of goal.

Calum McIntyre’s side now look ahead to a crunch match away at Scunthorpe next Saturday, with hopes of extending their unbeaten run to ten games.
