There were back to back victories to start the season for Chester FC.
Phil Parkinson named an unchanged side from the team that won 2 - 1 at Chorley on the opening day for the Blues’ first home game of the season.
We got off to the perfect start as Tom Peers opened the scoring inside the opening ten minutes, as he latched on to Declan Weeks’ pass and fired a superb effort beyond Ronnie Hollingshead.
With the goal advantage the hosts controlled the ball well and nearly added a second midway through the first-half as Nathan Woodthorpe broke beyond the Kings Lynn defence but his effort was denied by Hollingshead.
Peers was involved again after the half-hour as he showed good control to bring the ball down on the edge of the box but his powerful strike was deflected behind for a corner.
Ma’kel Campbell doubled the lead five minutes before half-time as Woodthorpe’s curling effort was pushed into the path of Peers and the goalscorer turned provider as he laid off for Campbell to thunder an effort into the roof of the net.
Kings Lynn came more into the game in the second-half but struggled create clear-cut chances to test Luke Hewitson in the home goal.
The Blues went agonisingly close to getting a third as an excellent Sam Reed cross went just over Campbell’s head and was put behind for a corner.
Dan Ward almost got in on the act late on as first he saw a powerful effort drop just wide before being denied by Hollinshead.
Substitute Jacob Hazel also stung the fingers of Hollingshead with a powerful effort in stoppage time, but nothing could stop the Blues from making it two wins from two.
We return to action on Tuesday night with a trip to Blackwell Meadows to face Darlington.
Starting XI: Hewitson, Burroughs, Woodthorpe, Weeks, Griffin, Peers, Waters, Ward, Woods, Campbell, Reed.
Substitutes: Davies, Kenny, Hazel, Murphy, Abreu, Lomax, Moore.
Scorers: Peers 8′, Campbell 40.
