A brace from Fin Shrimpton earned all three points for Chester over Spennymoor at the Deva Stadium this afternoon.
It was a tough start for the Blues when Bobby Jones brought down Corey McKeown in the penalty area just two minutes in.
Glen Taylor made no mistake finding the bottom-right corner from the spot to put the Moors ahead.
It didn’t take long for Chester to reply, as Connor Woods found Shrimpton after beating his man on the left-hand side.
Shrimpton found the bottom-left corner to equalise.
Just a few minutes later, Woods produced more skill to get free and have a shot on goal, but his curling effort was saved by Brad James.
McKeown almost restored the Moors’ lead, as his shot had to be blocked by Kevin Roberts.
On the stroke of half-time, Michael Kelly found Woods in the Spennymoor box from a corner, but the latter’s shot was saved by James.
The Blues took the lead just after the break, when Shrimpton latched on to a Dylan Mottley-Henry flick-on, and lobbed the goalkeeper for his second of the afternoon.
Shrimpton almost had his hat-trick, as he saw a shot blocked in the Spennymoor box.
Mottley-Henry saw a header flash wide from a Jaiden White cross.
After failing to test B. Jones for most of the second half, a late spell of pressure from the Moors saw Rob Ramshaw hit the post and Taylor scuff a shot from the centre of the home penalty area.
Chester are at home again next Saturday, when they face Darlington.
