BLUES MATCH PREVIEW: HEREFORD v CHESTER FC

Chester FC will be looking to make it three league wins in a row, as they make the trip to Hereford on Tuesday night.

The Seals are coming into this game with good momentum as they are unbeaten in their last seven games, as they extended that run on Saturday with a 2-1 away victory at Farsley Celtic.

Last weekend’s performance displayed great character and Chester manager Calum McIntyre will be hoping his team can emulate that fighting spirit on Tuesday night at Edgar Street.

Chester will still be without the injured Matty Williams and Charlie Caton, but the Chester manager does have defender Liam Edwards available again for selection as he made the substitute’s bench against Farsley Celtic after a spell out injured.

THE OPPOSITION

Hereford currently occupy 11th position in the National League North but only find themselves two points outside of the playoff places.

Since being founded as a phoenix club for Hereford United back in 2014, the Bulls have been a mainstay in the National League North. Three league titles in a row secured their place in the sixth tier of English football in 2018 and they’ve consistently finished in mid table since promotion.

A recent slide in form has resulted in only one win in five games, which included getting knocked out of the FA Trophy by National League outfit Gateshead.

Their most recent fixture saw them play out a goalless stalemate against table toppers Tamworth, a point which could turn out to be very useful for Paul Caddis’ side.

THE GAFFER

Paul Caddis joined Hereford at the end of last season and has so far enjoyed a successful first season in football management.

The 35-year-old was an EFL nomad as a player as he made over 350 club appearances for the likes of Swindon Town, Birmingham City and Blackburn Rovers.

The Scotsman, who has one cap with his national team, is most commonly known for scoring a last minute, vital equaliser for Birmingham against Bolton on the last day of the 2013/14 Championship season. His goal ensured Birmingham survived the drop and didn’t return to England’s third tier for the first time in 20 years.

ONE TO WATCH

Forward Jason Cowley is the Bulls’ top goalscorer this season with 11 goals and he scored a hattrick in Hereford’s last league win, a 5-2 dismantling of Blyth Spartans.

Another forward to potentially watch out for is the experienced Adam Rooney. The striker is endowed with English and Scottish football experience as he has made comfortably over 450 club appearances, netting just under 200 goals.

Alongside his playing duties, Rooney is also assistant manager at Edgar Street, his first step into the world of football coaching.
