Families across Flintshire can now access funded childcare for eligible two-year-olds, months ahead of the national rollout deadline.
Previously, funded childcare for two-year-olds was only available to families living in designated Flying Start areas. From this week, the offer is available county-wide – giving more children access to high-quality early years provision while supporting families with the cost of childcare.
Children can access up to 12.5 hours of funded childcare each week, delivered in daily sessions of 2.5 hours for up to five days per week during term time – 39 weeks per year.
Children are eligible from the start of the term after their second birthday, until the end of the term in which they turn three.
The funded hours can only be accessed through childcare providers registered to deliver Welsh Government-funded childcare for two-year-olds. A full list of providers is available on the Council’s website.
Councillor Christine Jones, Cabinet Member for Social Services and Wellbeing, said:
“This is fantastic news for families across Flintshire. Access to high-quality early years provision can have a huge impact on children’s development, confidence and social skills, helping them establish a strong foundation for learning.
“At the same time, this support will help families with childcare costs and provide greater flexibility for parents with work or other commitments to juggle.
“I would encourage all parents and carers to check their eligibility if they haven’t already, so they can take advantage of this valuable opportunity.”
All local authorities in Wales must offer 12.5 hours per week of funded childcare to all two-year-olds by March 2027.
