Calum McIntyre’s men picked up a point on the final day of the season against a resilient Darlington side at the Leap76 Stadium.
After a slow start Darlington grew into the game and Wyll Stanway was forced into a low save after a strong Cameron Salkeld strike from just outside the box.
Andrew Nelson was then played through on goal but his effort from an acute angle was blocked by Stanway.
Chester’s first big chance came for Ben Tollitt but his low effort was comfortably saved by Matty Young.
Neither side threatened as the interval drew closer with both goalkeepers looking very comfortable during a quiet half.
Charlie Caton was brought on for Adam Thomas shortly after half time and almost immediately got on the end of a curling Tollitt delivery, but the ball flew past the substitute and went out of play.
With around 20 minutes to go a delightful Tollitt flick played in Caton who connected well with his driven effort but Young unconventionally saved to preserve his clean sheet.
Declan Weeks then beat two defenders before firing a ball across the visiting box but the finishing touch just didn’t seem to be there for Chester.
Matty Williams stepped onto a bouncing ball with around 10 minutes to go but his half volleyed effort was blocked for a corner.
The final chance came for the Seals in additional time as Tom Peers delivered for Christian Norton who turned but his shot was blocked before Ollie Heywood came on for Nathan Woodthorpe for the last few minutes.
The full time whistle blew on what was a frustrating afternoon as the curtain came down on the season.
