Worksop Town claimed all three points at the Deva Stadium this afternoon, courtesy of a close-range header from Aaron Martin inside the first-half.
Fin Shrimpton had the first major opportunity of the contest but his drilled strike rolled into the hands of Lewis Forshaw, who impressed throughout in the away goal.
A goalmouth scramble on the half-hour mark saw the Blues come agonisingly close to an opener, as Jack Bainbridge’s looped effort found the crossbar before Dylan Mottley-Henry had a close-range effort blocked and cleared to safety.
The Tigers’ talisman Aaron Martin put the visitors in front just three minutes later, as he latched onto a well-delivered cross to head past George Murray-Jones from close-range.
Pat Jones almost found an equaliser just prior to the interval, as he fired a curled effort towards the far corner that was tipped round the post by an impressive Forshaw stop.
Calum McIntyre’s side pushed for a leveller throughout the second period but a stubborn Worksop back line kept them at bay, despite numerous efforts on the away goal.
The dangerous Jones tested the away defence immediately with pace down the left-hand side and unlocked the defence, but his low strike was gathered by Forshaw at the near post.
Our number 18 found space again moments later but Bainbridge failed to finish past Forshaw who continued to defy home efforts.
Worksop almost added a second just after the hour mark as Martin attempted to double his tally for the afternoon, only for his headed effort to bounce back off the post.
Substitute Tom Peers had a pair of chances with around 20 minutes remaining, firstly with a deflected effort that bounced into the hands of the ‘keeper, before he span inside the area but dragged his effort narrowly wide.
The final chance fell to our number seven but his flicked shot flew past the past after a powerful cross by Jones.
The Blues are back in action next Saturday as we travel to Bridlington for a clash with Scarborough Athletic.
