Council to close A556 lay-by following reports of anti-social behaviour

Cheshire West and Chester Council is closing the lay-by and former picnic area on the A556 near Hartford, following ongoing reports of anti-social behaviour at the site.

The closure is being introduced to help prevent further incidents, protect the area from misuse and improve safety for local residents and visitors.

The Council has been working with Cheshire Police to address issues at the location and, after considering a range of options, has decided that permanently restricting access is the most effective long-term solution.

The Council’s Cabinet Member for Community Safety and Neighbourhood Pride, Cllr Stuart Bingham said:

"We have received a number of reports relating to anti-social behaviour at this site and have been working with Cheshire Police to address the issues. Closing the lay-by will help prevent further incidents and reduce the impact on the local community. We appreciate the understanding of residents while these measures are put in place."

Work to close the site has begun and will be completed over the next few days.

Anyone who witnesses anti-social behaviour is encouraged to report it to:
