The First West Cheshire Food Summit

The first West Cheshire Food Summit is taking place at Hoole Community Centre from 9.30am to 1.30pm on Tuesday 18 July.

This event will bring together Cheshire West Voluntary Action (CWVA), its Welcome Network project, Cheshire West and Chester Council, national networks Sustainable Food Places and Feeding Britain and many others involved with food locally.

It is a chance to pause and reflect on all the work going on around food, as well as plan together for the future.

West Cheshire is now part of the Sustainable Food Places Network after a successful application by CWVA, supported by the Council.

The summit will aim to build a movement of people and organisations who all want to play a role in the vision of: “Everyone in west Cheshire has access to affordable, healthy, sustainable and enjoyable food”.

There will be conversations and workshops covering a range of topics, including food poverty, food waste, growing food, food and climate, health and food and Ageing Well.

The summit is for anyone interested in food, whether you’re an organisation based in your kitchen, garden, allotment, field or farm, a business, directly supporting people or all of the above.

Gary Cliffe, Chief Executive of Cheshire West Voluntary Action, said: “This is set to be a fantastic event and I’d encourage as many local community groups as possible to get involved.

“A coordinated approach to accessing food, with everyone working together towards the same goal, is so key.

“Our Welcome Network project brings together food groups so everyone can have these important conversations around food, putting the right support in place for people.”

Councillor Louise Gittins, Leader of the Council, added: “We’re delighted to be working with CWVA and many other partners to hold this event.

“This is a chance to hear about the inspiring work going on across the borough.

“These are challenging times for us all and it’s important we all work closely to make sure all our residents have access to affordable and sustainable food.

“Not only will the summit provide an opportunity to celebrate what we’re already doing well here in west Cheshire, but we want to put further plans in place for the future.”
